PINEVILLE, La. – LSU Alexandria defeated Our Lady of the Lake for the second straight day to clinch the tournament title at the 2024 RRAC Softball Championship at Wildcats Field on the campus of Louisiana Christian University.
The Generals' 6-1 victory today and their consecutive wins were even more impressive against OLLU, which was unbeaten in conference play entering the tournament and riding a 45-game winning streak after wins in the first two rounds.
LSUA struck early then built a 5-0 lead in the third inning. Haley Primrose doubled in a run in the first inning before a four-run third inning. Madi Baker and Bailey Layton had run-scoring singles sandwiched around a two-run triple from Amber Giddens.
The Generals put the brakes on OLLU's offense again today, stranding six runners on base and allowing a single run on a homer from Ava Hernandez in the fourth inning. LSUA added one more run for insurance and held on for the victory.
OLLU earned the RRAC's first automatic berth to the NAIA softball tournament, and LSUA receives the second as the tournament champions.
Fontenot was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Primrose, the winning pitcher from yesterday's game, was named the Most Valuable Pitcher.
